The 20-year-old has been in the news after making it clear that he won’t sign a new deal at Anfield even if it totals £180,000 a week according to the Daily Mail. Currently on £35,000 a week according to the Mirror, the forward claims that it isn’t the amount of money on offer that is making him not sign.
According to the report Arsenal could now pounce for the England international’s signature, with their willingness to make the youngster central to their team possibly drawing him to North London. He has been used as a wing-back in recent weeks by Brendan Rodgers.
This is the first time that Sterling has spoken about his ongoing negotiations to stay at Anfield, and they are not good news for Liverpool fans.
He said: “I don’t want to be seen as a money-grabbing 20-year-old. I just want to be seen as a kid that loves to play football.”
“It’s never been about money. I talk about winning trophies throughout my career. That’s all I talk about. I don’t talk about how many cars I’m going to drive, how many houses I’ve got. I just purely want to be the best I can be.”
