Lallana wants a reunion with his former manager.
Southampton captain Adam Lallana is set to snub Liverpool this summer in favour of a reunion with his former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur, reports the Guardian.
Pochettino was appointed as Tim Sherwood’s successor on Tuesday, signing a five-year deal at White Hart Lane after impressing over the previous 16 months with the Saints.
Now the Argentine is looking to ease himself into life in north London by signing Lallana for Spurs ahead of their Premier League rivals.
The Reds were confident the England international wanted to join them and saw a £20m bid for the attacking midfielder rejected by the Hampshire club earlier in the month.
Tottenham have also been long-term admirers of Lallana however, and will now look to use the lure of Pochettino to complete the deal themselves.
This is despite the fact that the Merseysiders will be playing Champions League football next term, whereas the north Londoners will have to make do with the Europa League once again.
Lallana has been impressing at St Mary’s ever since the side from the south coast returned to the English top flight back in 2012.
Successive top 10 finishes under Pochettino were spearheaded by the 26-year-old and he is now a regular in Roy Hodgson’s national team and is expected to play a big part at the 2014 World Cup this summer.
Lallana’s current team are holding out for closer to £25m for their skipper though and Spurs director of football Franco Baldini will have to begin negotiations soon, due to Hodgson’s ban on contact between players and agents once the World Cup has started.
