Leandro Damiao not set for White Hart Lane despite two years of speculation.
Long term Tottenham target Leandro Damiao is closing in on a move to Napoli.
The Internacional striker is expected to be the replacement for PSG-bound Edinson Cavani at the Stadio San Paolo, after a representative of the Brazil international admitted there is clear front-runner in the race to sign the 23-year-old.
“There is a club that intends to sign the player. The interest exists,” Vinicius Prates is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Southampton have also expressed an interest in Damiao of late, with the Selecao star believed to be one of Mauricio Pochettino’s top summer targets.
But Spurs have been linked with the powerful forward since signing a strategic partnership with Inter in 2010 and reportedly came close to signing Damiao in January.
Former Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez is now favourite to bring the player to Italy in his first major signing since arriving in Naples.
The exact fee, however, remains unclear with Prates dismissing reports Damiao is set to cost around £18m: “The reported value is a lie.”
