Under siege NBA team to have its front-court depth tested severely.
Los Angeles Lakers centre Paul Gasol will have scans on his injured ankle on Monday as the side sweats on his fitness ahead of a busy time in their schedule.
The Lakers have a scheduled off day Monday with their next game not coming until Friday in Sacramento but Gasol said he will use the free day to have his ankle, which Gasol said was “a little sore”, examined.
Gasol hurt his ankle in his side’s 114-108 loss to the Portland Trailblazers, with the possible injury capping a miserable night for the veteran as he went just 3-15 from the field.
“I just missed some wide-open shots,” Gasol said. “I missed them early, I missed them late.”
“Robert (Sacre) was playing really well and the unit that was out there was pretty well and we know that Mike (D’Antoni) likes to stick with units that are functioning and making runs,” Gasol said. “I wasn’t upset because we were making a big run and I wasn’t having a particularly good night.”
Los Angeles have been limping along this season without key player Kobe Bryant with the side hovering around the .500 mark.
However, if Gasol is ruled out for any period of time it will be a further blow to the Lakers, who were looking forward to getting Bryant back to full playing duties possibly as early as this Friday against the Sacramento Kings.
