Van Gaal has confessed that he would have preferred to wait until the summer to move for the exciting Dutch forward, but because of Paris Saint Germain’s reported interest he was forced to act quickly.
And the manager believes the news will effect his current stars because some of them cannot handle the pressure.
“When you sign a new player, you can disturb the focus of the current ones,” Van Gaal said.
“For some players, it’s too much pressure and they cannot cope.”
Though he opted to avoid naming names, it is possible that he is referring to the likes of Angel Di Maria and Ashley Young – both of whom are likely to see their playing time suffer as a result of the Dutch international’s impending arrival.
