The Colombian international was a shock exclusion from last weekend’s defeat to Southampton, sparking fresh speculation about his future.
So far this season he has featured 18 times, scoring five goals.
But Van Gaal is far from satisfied with his current input, and has called on the 28-year-old to start showing that he is worthy of such a high price tag.
“He has to prove himself. Because of that we have made this deal and everything is clear and it is not till the end of the year so he has a chance for that [to prove himself],” the manager said.
