Shaw is preparing to make the move up north.
Southampton left-back Luke Shaw is on the verge of becoming Louis van Gaal’s first signing as Manchester United manager as the youngster goes house hunting in Cheshire, according to the Mirror.
The 18-year-old is expected to complete a £30m transfer to Old Trafford and become the highest paid teenager of all time by signing a five-year deal with wages of around £100,000-a-week.
Shaw and his family have been looking into property in the north of England as there were concerns the defender would have difficulty settling in away from his current home in Surrey.
However, they have since been convinced and the Englishman’s agent is expected to finalise the personal terms on the deal this week, with the transfer being announced shortly afterwards.
Van Gaal is keen to do as much business as possible before he leads his Netherlands team in the 2014 World Cup – before leaving that post after the tournament to concentrate solely on United.
Securing Shaw would be a major coup for the club, especially as Chelsea had previously shown interest, and it would mean the problem of replacing Patrice Evra is resolved quickly.
The Red Devils have handed van Gaal a £200m kitty to spend on new talent this summer and the signing of the England international would take a significant chunk out of that.
Yet having impressed with the Saints over the past two years and beating Ashley Cole to a place in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad for the World Cup, many think Shaw is worth it.
