The Colombian international has been in fine fettle in front of goal this term, and has caught Van Gaal’s eye as he continues to look for a more consistent striker to lead the line next term.
Having already bagged 19 goals in 30 La Liga appearances so far this term, he is being looked at as an alternative to the expensive Radamel Falcao, who has failed to live up to his price tag at Old Trafford.
However, United will be forced to fend off interest from the likes of Liverpool and Italian giants AC Milan, who are both eager to bring him on board as well.
There are also doubts surrounding the future of veteran Dutch ace Robin van Persie, whose injury record this term has hampered his own contribution.
