Dutchman desperate to land Robben as a signal of intent.
Manchester United’s new boss Louis van Gaal wants to make a statement as manager of the English giants by signing Bayern Munich’s star winger Arjen Robben for United, reports the Daily Star.
Despite the fact that the 30-year old has insisted about his unwillingness to part with Bayern, van Gaal strongly desires to land the speedy winger, says Ajax youth coach Bryan Roy.
Roy knows van Gaal through his connections at the Dutch giants, and feels that the 62-year-old wants to land the former Real Madrid and Chelsea star at any cost.
“I think Louis wants him desperately to come to Manchester United,” Roy said.
“Bayern Munich is also a big club and he is very happy there but you never know. With football, everything is possible.”
Although money will not be a problem for United in chasing some of the best players in the world, the lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford, coupled with the fall from grace of England’s most successful club has gotten players to think twice about coming to United next season.
Moreover, Robben has recently signed a new deal at Bayern, and is known to be a central figure in the German side’s scheme of things, which could keep him from moving out of the Allianz Arena.
