The 62-year-old is eyeing up PSV’s Depay.
PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay could become one of Louis van Gaal’s first signings at Manchester United in a £15m move, according to the Sun.
The 20-year-old has greatly impressed in his native Netherlands this season, making 43 appearances in all competitions and scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists.
In fact Depay has performed so well that van Gaal has included the winger in his squad to take to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The 62-year-old will take over at Old Trafford after that tournament and the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is considering bringing the youngster with him.
Van Gaal is a big admirer of Depay and would look to secure the attacker’s signature before the World Cup starts, due to the fact his price may soar during it.
The starlet is contracted at PSV until 2017 and that is why the Eredivisie club are in a good position to negotiate, with £15m appearing to be considered an acceptable fee.
With the ability to play on either flank Depay could bring some much needed creativity in the final third to the United squad.
Their disappointing 2013/14 campaign was partly down to the poor performances of Nani and Ashley Young out wide and replacing the duo is a priority for van Gaal.
The Red Devils would be hoping that Depay would make as big an impact as the last player they bought from PSV, with Ruud van Nistelrooy making the switch in 2001 and going onto score 149 goals in 215 games.
