The Dutch forward has been poor this season, raising questions over whether he is still capable of competing at the highest level; and if so, for how long.
A woeful performance against his former club Arsenal on Saturday just fuelled speculation that he could be on his way out, with his £250,000 per week salary making him an extremely expensive passenger.
He allegedly has a loyalty clause in his current contract, which would force Manchester United to pay out an extra £10m if he were to see out his deal. This just gives the club more reason to offload him at the end of the season, getting a small return on the player who will have just 1 year left on his contract.
