Spanish journalist Alfredo Duro claimed on Friday night’s edition of television show El Chiringuito that Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, flew to Manchester last month to meet with chief scout Martin Ferguson over a possible transfer.
However, when Ferguson – who is the brother of Sir Alex – went to Van Gaal with the proposal, the Dutchman vetoed the deal.
The 30-year-old has been been heavily linked with a return to Old Trafford for some time now, and a deal could be resurrected in the summer after Real admitted they could be interested in letting him move on. The Spaniards are said to be concerned about his age.
