Uruguay forward has only been with the club since Jan 2011.
Unsettled Liverpool front man Luis Suarez has reiterated his desire to leave the Merseyside giants this summer, reports the Guardian.
The coveted Uruguay international has been the subject of intense speculation of late regarding his long-term future at Anfield after having recently been banned for ten matches by The Football Association for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on the upper arm in a Premier League encounter in April.
As a result, rumours have been rife that the 26-year-old will opt to depart the Reds when the transfer window swings opens for business once again on July 1, with Spanish giants Real Madrid understood to be lining up a £40 million four-year deal for the deadly attacker.
And that is the exact size of Suarez’s release clause in his current contract with Liverpool that was extended last year on substantially greater terms until June 30 2018, with the forward having netted an impressive 51 goals for the club in only 96 matches.
“It is a difficult moment for me, my coach and my colleagues know that they didn’t treat me well,” Suarez told a press conference back in his native Uruguay.
“Because of the paparazzi I could not go in my garden, I could not go to the supermarket.
“The straw that broke the camel’s back was my mistake.”
