Suarez is waiting for a move to Real Madrid, says Cavani…
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez never wanted a move to Arsenal over the summer, and is in fact still holding out for a move to Real Madrid, reports the Daily Mail.
Edinson Cavani, Suarez’s strike partner for the Uruguayan national side, reckons his friend would have left Anfield if Real Madrid had come in for him in the summer.
“I am sure Liverpool fans are very happy Luis stayed – he will be a big player for them,” said Cavani, who moved to PSG from Napoli this summer for a whopping £57m.
“I think Arsenal was not Luis’s dream move, maybe if it had been Real Madrid then it would have been a different outcome – but of course Madrid were concentrating on a different target this summer.”
The Gunners famously bid £40m plus £1 for Suarez in the hope that it would meet a release clause. The release clause didn’t exist however, and the offer irritated the Liverpool hierarchy enormously, who subsequently refused to do business with their Premier League rivals.
Real Madrid focussed entirely on completing a world-record £85m deal for Gareth Bale, but could go in for Suarez in January, because of current striker Karim Benzema’s poor form.
The Liverpool striker has recently returned from a ten match ban he picked up at the end of last season for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, and bagged a brace against Sunderland on his first Premier League match back.
“It is no surprise to me at all that Luis has come back for Liverpool and is scoring goals right away,” Cavani continued.
“He is the most complete striker in England – and one of the most complete strikers in the world. Ability and confidence is no issue for him, he will score a lot of goals this season I am sure.”
