The Spurs playmaker is currently enjoying yet another spectacular season for the North London club, his best to date at White Hart Lane, having scored three goals in his previous four games.
However, should Andre Villas-Boas’s men fail to make it into the top four of the Premier League this campaign, and with it entry into next season’s Champions League, then the Wales international is almost certain to leave Tottenham come the summer.
And, with Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly set to base his whole re-election campaign around the promise of bringing Bale to the Santiago Bernabeu, then Spurs are bracing themselves for an expected big-money offer for the player’s services.
It is understood that to part fund the £38 million purchase, Madrid will attempt to offload Portugal international Fabio Coentrao, with Champions League holders Chelsea believed to be keen to bring the left back to Stamford Bridge having missed out on the player when he opted to sign for Real instead two years ago.
