Arsenal apparently couldn’t compete with the wage package offered to Julian Draxler. Do the Gunners have a backup plan?
The transfer battle for Schalke 04 star Julian Draxler appears to be over with Arsenal failing to come out on top.
According to the Express, Serie A champions Juventus are on the verge of completing a contract with Draxler that will pay him estimated wages of £50,000-a-week after reaching personal terms with the club. Draxler’s rep Roger Wittmann noted that one of the primary stumbling blocks in the deal remains the transfer fee, which has not been finalised yet.
“We are at a point where only Juventus and Schalke must come to a deal,” Wittmann said.
The Express reported that Arsenal have turned their attentions elsewhere amidst the recent decision by Draxler to agree to terms with Juventus.
Draxler made his senior debut with Schalke 04 in 2010 and has been a star winger for the club when healthy. He had a breakout year during the 2012-13 season and set a career high with 10 league goals and 13 total goals. Draxler was also a member of the German national team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
