King Raja feels the friendly match is the perfect educational tool for his squad.
National team coach Datuk K. Rajagopal wants his players to learn from Chelsea when his Malaysia XI face the Premier League club on Sunday.
The Europa League winners, led by returning manager Jose Mourinho, will take part in the special match at the Shah Alam Stadium as part of their Asia tour ahead of the 2013/14 season.
King Raja, however, has one eye on the crucial Asian Cup Qualifiers with Bahrain in October and is hoping that competing against a high-calibre team will drive his squad to improve themselves on the field.
“Every time we play against any team, we have a goal not to only entertain the fans, but also to give our best performance,” he said to Goal.com
“If possible, I want all my players to learn whatever that’s beneficial from the Chelsea side,”
The 57-year-old also expressed his admiration for managerial counterpart Mourinho and his ability to bring success to any team under his control.
“When [Mourinho] moves to any team, he is successful in guiding them to emerge as champions and he always has a line-up of the best players when he trains a new side,” King Raja added.
