Frenchman likely to be heading to the Premier League this week.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho is set to snub Roma as he prefers a move to Liverpool according to reports in Italy.
The 23-year-old is set to leave the French capital this summer despite declarations to the contrary from club officials, with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos likely to form Laurent Blanc’s centre-half pairing for the long-term future.
As a result, it is believed that Sakho is unwilling to remain at the club if he can’t be guaranteed first team football and a whole host of top European clubs have been monitoring his situation closely.
AC Milan had been touted as a possible destination, but Roma had emerged as a more viable solution over the course the past week with speculation suggesting that they were in talks over a possible deal.
The club’s sporting director Walter Sabatini has reportedly held talks with the defender’s representatives and with the player himself, and it has been claimed that he has an agreement to join Liverpool.
According to respected Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma have now admitted defeat in their pursuit of the talented centre-back and are likely to follow up other targets as they look to further strengthen the squad with the money they received from Erik Lamela’s switch to Tottenham.
Having also sold Marquinhos and Pablo Osvaldo this summer, there are reports that Rudi Garcia still has funds to bring in more new faces if the appropriate targets are available at this late stage of the transfer window.
