Manchester City destroyed West Ham United with a clinical display, thanks to a hat-trick from Alvaro Negredo, a brace from Edin Dzeko and a Yaya Toure strike.
Negredo opened the scoring with a wonderful first time volley from Toure’s long ball, before doubling his tally with a high shot on the run after Dzeko’s slide rule pass put him clear.
A typically bulldozing run from Toure made it three before half time, and things wouldn’t get any easier for the Hammers or their under pressure boss Sam Allardyce after the break.
Negredo curled into the far corner after some incisive passing around the area, before Dzeko completed the scoring with two tidy finishes.
This is a two legged Capital One Cup semi-final, but Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will feel confident he will be able to rest players for the reverse fixture at Upton Park.
