Manchester City are keen to beat Manchester United to the signature of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports.
Otamendi has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, however The Mirror reports the Red Devils’ noisy neighbours are keen to complete a deal for the £35m-rated defender once they land Kevin de Bruyne.
Valencia are believed to be desperate to hold onto the Argentine international, however it is understood the player is keen for a move to the Premier League.
The report suggests City will wait to swoop on Otamendi after it ties up a deal for De Bruyne, and the cashed-up Premier League giants are understood to have offered the 24-year-old a six-year £200k-a-week deal.
City are reported to have tabled a mega £47m bid for the 24-year-old, but it remains to be seen if Wolfsburg will accept the offer.
Meanwhile, Valencia have been adamant they will only allow Otamendi to leave if either City or United match the player’s £35m release clause, and it will be interesting to see if either club will splash the cash on the 27-year-old.
