Bellarabi has impressed for the Bundesliga outfit since joining from Eintracht Braunschweig in 2011, and The Sun reports the cashed-up Premier League giants are preparing a £25m summer bid for the 25-year-old.
The speedster’s performances in the Bundesliga earned him an international debut for Germany in October 2014, and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly keen on offloading the player before an £18m buy-out clause kicks in next year.
Bellarabi scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga last season as he helped his side to a Champions League-clinching fourth-place finish.
He scored his first international goal during Germany’s 7-0 dismantling of Gibraltar in a EURO 2016 qualifying clash last month and is widely regarded as one of the Bundesliga’s best wide men.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini will need to splash the cash in the summer market following his side’s poor title defence that has put the Chilean under a mountain of pressure ahead of the new season.
