The reigning Premier League Champions are said to be eager to bring more English talent into the City starting XI according to the Daily Mail.
The club are wary that at times this season, goalkeeper Joe Hart has been the only Englishman in the City line-up. The club are also looking to recruit new faces as both veteran Frank Lampard and James Milner are likely on the way out of the club this summer.
City believe they can capture Henderson due to the disputes over the 24-year-old’s contract, if he fails to sign a new deal before the end of this season, the former Sunderland man will have just one-year remaining on his contract heading into the next Premier League campaign.
There are potential concerns over Jack Wilshere’s injury record with the Arsenal man yet to return from an ankle knock suffered in November.
However, City see the £80 million they have spent to acquire former Arsenal talents – such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri – as proof they could work a deal for the midfielder if they wanted to.
Both players, says the Mail, will command a fee of over £30 million.
