The reigning Premier League champions, who look set to finish this season trophyless barring a miraculous late turnaround, are losing patience with current manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Guardiola is their ideal candidate to replace the Chilean, though the Spanish tactician still has a year to go on his contract at the Allianz Arena and may not be moving this year.
Arsenal and Manchester United have also shown an interest in Guardiola in the past, but City are now hoping they can win the race for one of the most in-demand managers in world football.
