Man City are preparing to pay a British transfer record to lure Wolfsburg star Kevin de Bruyne to the Etihad, according to reports.
City’s are set to put forward the mammoth bid despite paying Liverpool a staggering £49m for 20-year-old attacker Raheem Sterling.
According to The Mirror, the cashed-up Premier League giants will open the bidding for the Belgian at £40m but are believed to be prepared to splash as much as £60m for the former Chelsea man.
A £60m deal would surpass the current British transfer record of £59.7, the amount Manchester United paid for Argentine winger Angel di Maria to join the Red Devils from Real Madrid last summer.
De Bruyne has reportedly told Wolfsburg of his desire to leave the club, and it is understood City will offer the 24-year-old a £200k-a-week five-year deal.
The Belgian international scored 10 goals in the Bundesliga last season, but created a league record 21 assists.
