City are understood to have concerns over ageing stars Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna, and The Daily Mail reports that City are weighing up a move for the 21-year-old.
Fabinho only recently permanently joined the Ligue 1 giants following a two-year loan stint from Portuguese side Rio Ave, and the report suggests the club will demand a fee of £15m for the Brazilian.
He was part of Dunga’s squad that reached the quarter-finals of the Copa America, agonisingly going out on penalties to Paraguay.
Fabinho had previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but it seems interest from the Red Devils has cooled, paving the way for crosstown rivals City to make a move for the player.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have prioritised strengthening his midfield during the summer window, but it will be interesting to see if the cashed-up Premier League giants put pressure on Zabaleta with the addition of Fabinho.
