City boss Manuel Pellegrini is in dire need of home-grown talent to match UEFA requirements, and The Daily Mail reports that the cashed-up Premier League giants could make a move for Delph.
The report suggests that the 25-year-old has a release clause of just £8m and is seen as an ideal replacement for Liverpool-bound James Milner.
In January, Delph signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Villa which ties him down to the club until 2019.
However, City are likely to be undeterred by Delph’s long-term deal considering his affordable buyout clause.
Delph has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool, but it now seems the former Leeds United could be on his way to the Etihad.
City are believed to have had two bids rejected by Liverpool for Raheem Sterling and the club is also reportedly keeping tabs on Arsenal ace Jack Wilshere.
The Premier League giants are in the chase to sign home-grown talent in an attempt to avoid the possible situation of having a Champions League squad of just 20 players next season.
