Manchester United are expected to complete a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro within hours, but their pursuit is not without competition.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester City will vault themselves into the race for Pedro if they cannot sign Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
It will not be easy for Man City to convince the Bundesliga club to sell the Belgian international, as they are holding out for £50m.
Pedro would be a much cheaper option for Man City, as paying his £22m release clause is likely all that it would take to land the Spanish international.
However, Man United are still in pole position to land the Barcelona winger, as he has expressed his desire to land in Old Trafford.
Pedro is hoping to earn more playing time, which is virtually impossible when playing in a stacked Barcelona squad.
He would mark a major upgrade for Man United’s scoring attack, and he could also make an ideal mentor for Man City midfielder Raheem Sterling.
De Bruyne is one of Europe’s hottest players right now, despite failing to make the grade during his brief time with Chelsea.
