Manchester City are ready to hijack Man United’s moves for key defensive targets Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports.
United have been heavily linked with moves for both players, however, The Mirror reports the Red Devils’ noisy neighbours will attempt to cause a transfer war over the star defenders.
Ramos is believed to be currently in the middle of talks with Real Madrid over his future with the club but was handed the captaincy following Iker Casillas’s departure to FC Porto.
Argentine international Otamendi is understood to be desperate to leave Valencia and make a move to the Premier League, and City have come into late favouritism for his signature despite the player being a long-time United transfer target.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bolster his defensive stocks ahead of the new season, with Vincent Kompany and £31.9m new boy Eliaquim Mangala enduring below-par seasons last term.
