Mancini has confirmed the player’s absence after the Argentinian forward suffered a hamstring injury in the New Year’s Day game against Stoke.
‘Sergio is not available for Sunday. We don’t want to take a risk with him. He continues to do treatment this week. I hope he can play against Fulham [in the] next game.’
‘We can’t take a risk with him now. If Arsenal was the last game [of the season] then, okay, but like this it’s impossible.’
Man City still have a wealth of options to choose from for their attacking line.
It will be interesting to see whether Aguero is replaced by Italian Balotelli, who was pictured in a training groun fracas with Mancini earlier in the week, or by Bosnian Edin Dzeko, who has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals in the league.
Man City need a win against Arsenal as they face the prospect of starting the game ten points behind league leaders Man Utd as a result of their earlier kick off in the game against Liverpool.
