According to The Daily Mail, the La Liga giants have turned down United’s initial bid, however Red Devils bosses are expected to put the pressure on Real Madrid and submit an improved offer.
Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past week, and it is understood the player met with Real Madrid officials on Wednesday to inform them of his desire to leave the Bernabeu.
The 29-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal at Real Madrid, and The Daily Mail suggests the player is unhappy with his current £4m-a-year contract and wants an improved £6m-a-year deal.
United are believed to pay Ramos a £7.8m net salary should the former Sevilla man make the move to the Premier League.
Louis van Gaal failed to settle on a solid defensive combination last season and Ramos would add plenty of class and experience to the heart of the United defence.
