Matt Olosunde could be the first of several NY Red Bulls players to be snatched after his club beat Chelsea last week. Can he develop into a star in the Premier League?
The New York Red Bulls’ stunning 4-2 upset over Chelsea opened eyes to some of the stars on the roster, and Man United have started what could be a summer plundering of the MLS club’s talent.
According to the Metro, Man United are prepared to complete a transfer deal with 16-year-old Red Bulls’ defender Matt Olosunde and is reportedly being viewed at Old Trafford as a potential replacement for departed back Reece James. The Red Devils have already offered a trial to the American wonderkid, who has displayed versatility as a center-back and a right-back.
The New York Red Bulls gained international attention this past week when the MLS outfit defeated Chelsea in a 4-2 International Champions Cup match in New Jersey. During the match, Chelsea’s newly-signed stopper Asmir Begovic had a nightmare debut as Red Bulls stars Franklin Castellanos and Sean Davis combined for three goals while 16-year-old Tyler Adams tacked on a 4th.
Should the deal be completed, Olosunde would mark the fifth major transfer move by Man United boss Louis van Gaal this summer.
Olosunde, who has represented the United States since he was 13, is expected to join the U17 World Cup in Chile in October.
