The Dutchman is now a free agent after his contract at Villa Park expired earlier this month, and he has long been linked with some of the top teams in the Premier League.
However, it doesn’t appear as though a reunion with Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford is top of the agenda as he has flown out to the Italian capital to start negotiations with Lazio.
The 30-year-old was recognised by someone at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, and his agent responded by revealing why they were there.
“We might be signing for Lazio. We’ll see in a few days,” his agent reportedly told Il Tempo, according to London24.
The Serie A giants are back in the Champions League next season, and they are seemingly putting together a Dutch contingent of their own with Vlaar potentially linking up with national teammate Stefan de Vrij among others.
