Barnsley defender Mason Holgate has undergone a medical with Everton ahead of a £2m move, according to reports.
The 18-year-old defender has impressed in his 20 appearances for the League One side and reportedly has interest from Premier League big guns Manchester United and Arsenal.
Holgate is believed to trained with Manchester United during the off-season, however, Sky Sports [via Daily Express] reports the youngster was expected to report to Everton’s Finch Farm training complex on Wednesday night to finalise personal terms.
Newcastle United were also reported to show interest in Holgate, but it seems the youngster has opted for a move to Goodison Park.
Holgate is capable of playing as both a centre-back and right-back, and his versatility has attracted the interest of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The Daily Mail on Tuesday reported that Holgate was close to inking a deal with the newly promoted AFC Bournemouth, but it is now expected he will agree to terms with the Toffees.
