Southampton have stepped up its chase for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, with the Premier League side reportedly tabling a £7m offer for the Dutchman.
Van Dijk has impressed for the Scottish giants since joining from Eredivisie outfit Groningen in 2013 and is believed to have caught the eye of a number of top Premier League clubs.
According to Daily Express, both Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with the 24-year-old, but it seems Southampton have moved into pole position for the defender’s signature after an opening £7m bid.
It is believed Celtic boss Ronny Delia is desperate to keep Van Dijk at the club, but it remains to be seen if the 6ft 4′ centre-back will be tempted by a Premier League move.
Van Dijk is currently with the Celtic squad in Azerbaijan for the second leg of its Champions League play-off with FK Qarabag, but the Saints are understood to be keen to complete the deal before Sunday’s clash with Newcastle.
