Manchester United are not expected to mount a challenge for the 2015-16 Premier League title, with Chelsea and Manchester City the bookmakers’ favourites to take out the domestic crown.
However, Man United boss Louis van Gaal believes that his team has what it takes to make a Premier League title run.
“We have to battle for all the titles, what we can reach. I can believe that we can do that,” Van Gaal said, according to the Daily Star.
Man United finished in fourth place last season, however it was a major improvement over its horrid 2013-14 season which saw the English giants finish in seventh.
The ever-optimistic Van Gaal has backed star striker Wayne Rooney to help the side push for silverware this season.
“So he has a chance to play in the striker’s position, but normally Rooney shall play because we have confidence that he can score more than 20 goals there,” van Gaal said.
However, Rooney has not reached that mark since the 2011-12 season, when the England star notched up an impressive 27 goals in the Premier League.
Rooney has managed at least 14 goals in each of his last three seasons though.
Man United are hoping to strengthen its attacking depth and are reportedly pursuing a move fot Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.
They are also on the verge of completing a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro.
