United sealed a 3-1 win over their opponents with Memphis Depay among the goalscorers. However, Van Gaal was left less than impressed with Schweinsteiger in particular.
“He was also bad,” Van Gaal added when asked about the German’s display, as reported by Sky Sports.
“Players can play bad, certainly when you have only three days or six days training session in your legs and you have to play 45 minutes.
“Everybody can think it is easy to step in but it is not easy. I thought the first match (Schweinsteiger) played very well and now he played bad but that is also a process.”
The former Bayern ace will be familiar with Van Gaal’s methods after their time together in Bavaria, but he will certainly hope to impress his manager ahead of the new season to secure his place in the team.
United have won both games on their US tour, but the Dutch tactician is seemingly wanting to see more from his players in their remaining fixtures.
