Man United boss Louis van Gaal is keen to add a big-name signing to his squad this season despite the Red Devils already having spent a reported £80m during the summer window.
The Red Devils have announced deals for Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, however, the Dutch boss is not content.
Van Gaal used Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City as examples as to why United need to dip back into the market to sign a star attacker.
“Chelsea have Hazard. He can always make goals, he can always make an action and decide a goal. Manchester City have Aguero, it’s the same type. And Barcelona have Messi, Neymar and Suarez,” Van Gaal is quoted as saying by The Sun.
“We, as Manchester United, have to compete with these clubs. So we have to look also for that kind of player.
“When it is possible to buy for a reasonable price players from that level, we shall do that because they can contribute that, they are better.
“With Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Depay, and Darmian we are better than last year.
“But we have to be much better.”
With Angel di Maria seemingly edging closer to a move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, United will look to replace the Argentine with a big-money signing.
United have been linked with a move for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, however, Van Gaal says luring the former Red Devils man back to Old Trafford will not be an easy task.
“Yeah, of course. He may come . . . but it is not possible,” Van Gaal said.
“Because you have the club, Ronaldo and then you have Manchester United and how much Manchester United want to spend.”
