Man United manager Louis van Gaal has left the door firmly ajar for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos to join the Red Devils this summer.
Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent times, but it now seems the deal has stalled with United baulking at Real Madrid’s asking price for the 29-year-old.
The Spanish international is currently with the Real Madrid squad in Australia for the International Champions Cup and has been handed the captaincy following the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
However, Van Gaal refused to rule out Ramos signing on the dotted line at Old Trafford.
“I cannot talk about these rumours,” Van Gaal is quoted as saying by Daily Star.
“I have said already it’s a process.
“Maybe Mr Ramos is in the process – you never know.”
Van Gaal’s comments certainly add fuel to the fire considering his usual tight-lipped stance in regards to player transfers, but there’s no doubt Real Madrid will do all it can to keep hold of one of its most prized assets.
United have also been linked with Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, and Metro [via Fichajes] reports the Red Devils are ‘within hours’ of completing a deal.
