Manchester United have officially sold midfielder Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain for £44.3m, and his differences with manager Louis van Gaal were no secret.
However, van Gaal revealed that he still believes losing Di Maria will be significant for the Red Devils.
“So Di Maria, okay, we have solved that problem before the competition starts but for us it is a big loss,” the Dutch manager said to Manchester Evening News.
Man United fans will be happy to move on without the Argentine international, as he failed to fit in with the team in his only season at Old Trafford following a £59.7m move from Real Madrid.
Di Maria became disgruntled with his situation at Man United, as he struggled with only three goals while being unable to adjust to Van Gaal’s style of play.
The 27-year-old midfielder’s discontent became clear when he failed to show up for the team’s pre-season tour. This drew him a fine of two weeks of wages.
Man United are still hoping to convince Barcelona to sell winger Pedro, who figures to be Di Maria’s replacement if he arrives in Old Trafford.
