With plenty of cash to spend and an infusion of talent and depth needed to contend in 2015-16, Man United manager Louis van Gaal is ready to plunder Lazio’s roster for the talent to get to the top.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the boss at Old Trafford has as much as £200 million to spend during the transfer period and has a pair of Serie A stars – namely Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij and Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson – in his sights.
The Evening News quoted Man United’s own Robin van Persie, who says the club is looking to go on a massive spending spree to get to the top of the Premier League table after finishing a distant 4th in the final standings this past year.
“United spent £200m on players last year and they are going to spend another £200m this summer so we will have a team that can compete for the title,” the Netherlands vice-captain said.
It’s no big secret that van Gaal thinks highly of de Vrij, having attempted to recruit the 23-year-old FIFA All-Star last season but ultimately losing out to Lazio. As for Anderson, the Brazilian attacker has drawn interest from just about everyone with two eyes and a checkbook, scoring 10 goals in 45 appearances for Lazio since 2013.
