The Red Devils drew 0-0 with the lower league side in January and must now beat the League Two minnows at Old Trafford to progress to the next round, a competition the England skipper is desperate to win.
“Of course he’s told us that — but the whole team look at it as a trophy we all want. Wazza hasn’t won it and he’s definitely going to want to win it this year,” said United summer signing Luke Shaw, reports The Sun.
“You could say it’s the main priority now because the league — while I wouldn’t say it’s gone — is quite far away.
“We’ve been quite lucky with the draw so far, so maybe it could be our year.”
Indeed, United would have to travel to either Sheffield United or Preston North End in the next round if they manage to progress tonight.
But as well as being desperate the win the Cup, Louis van Gaal has revealed how the United captain, Rooney, was also keen to reap revenge on Leicester City at the weekend and fired up his team before their comfortable 3-1 win over the Foxes on Saturday.
“Rooney said before the start of the Leicester match ‘do you remember how we lost that?’
“It’s also that same feeling with Cambridge.”
