Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has named his squad to face Club Brugge in his side’s two-legged Champions League play-off.
Van Gaal has included five summer signings in the 28-man party – Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay.
The headline news from Van Gaal’s selection is that David de Gea is one of four goalkeepers named.
De Gea continues to be heavily linked with a summer transfer to Real Madrid.
Such is the weight of the speculation, Van Gaal opted to leave De Gea out of the side to face Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, because he was worried that the Spaniard might be ‘distracted’.
De Gea will not be cup-tied if he plays against Brugge, because the match is seen as a qualifier by UEFA.
Therefore, he could effectively play for United and Real in this season’s Champions League.
