After missing out on several big-name goalkeepers to potentially replace disgruntled star David de Gea, Man United appear to have targeted a seldom-used La Liga star.
According to the Daily Star, Man United are pursuing Atletico Madrid’s No. 2 goalkeeper Jan Oblak as possible De Gea replacement and are considering a £32 million bid for the 22-year-old Slovenian stopper. De Gea is expected to force his way out of Old Trafford and into Atletico Madrid’s arch-rival Real Madrid very soon. Man United have been booted out of recent races for Iker Casillas, Petr Cech and Asmir Begovic among other possible de Gea replacements.
Despite appearing in just 11 league games for Atletico Madrid in 2014, Oblak displayed superstar potential when he was a member of Benefica in Primeria Liga just one year before. During the 2013-14 season with the Portugese league, Oblak conceded only 3 goals in 13 games, earning Best Goalkeeper honors and helping the club achieve the Primeira Liga championship, Taca de Portugal, Taca da Liga and a runner-up finish in the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League.
