The Red Devils are keen to land a new midfielder in the upcoming January transfer window, and Louis van Gaal believes that Perez is the man to help United make a surprise push for the Premier League title.
Reports last week claimed that the 28-year-old was on the verge of a switch to the La Liga giants, where he has more chance of playing regular football, but it is now believed that they are not keen on paying the £23m required to sign him.
The news could free up Van Gaal to make a double swoop for Perez and teammate Nico Gaitan in the new year.
Gaitan came close to moving to Old Trafford during Sir Alex Ferguson’t time in charge, but Van Gaal has been begged by Angel Di Maria to finally complete the switch.
