Manchester United have effectively been given the all clear to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Gregory van der Wiel, with the Dutchman admitting the Ligue 1 giants are attempting to force him out of the club.
Van der Wiel has worked with Louis van Gaal with the Dutch national team and has been linked with a move to the Red Devils in recent months.
United have already signed right-back Matteo Darmian from Italian side Torino, however, Brazilian defender Rafael looks set to be on his way out of Old Trafford.
According to Talksport [via L’Equipe], Rafael has agreed terms with Ligue 1 side Lyon, with a move expected to be completed this week.
Despite playing a key role in PSG’s last three league titles, Van der Wiel has been told he is no longer required in the French capital.
“I want to stay at PSG but the club wants me to go,” he is quoted as saying by Daily Express.
“Things are clear.”
Van der Wiel has won 41 caps for Netherlands and would surely provide Darmian with strong competition for a starting spot at right-back.
