Manchester United will make a big push to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to reports.
United boss Louis van Gaal was keen to bring Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford this summer, however, it has been reported that the 29-year-old will pen a new deal to remain at the Bernabeu.
According to Daily Express [via Duncan Castles], Van Gaal will now turn his full attention into snaring the signature of Otamendi as he looks to bolster his defence ahead of the new season.
The Argentine international still has four years remaining on his deal with Valencia, and it is reported the La Liga heavyweights will not accept anything less than £25m for the 27-year-old.
Otamendi has starred for Valencia since joining the club from FC Porto in 2014 and his signing would without doubt help United’s fight against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League crown.
Van Gaal failed to settle on a defensive combination last season, and Otamendi would help provide consistency to the heart of the United defence.
