Everton look to be on the verge of signing Manchester United defender Johnny Evans, according to reports.
Evans has struggled for first-team opportunities under Louis van Gaal and has been linked with a move to several Premier League clubs.
According to Metro, Arsenal, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion were all thought to be interested in the Northern Ireland international, however Everton seems the most likely to snare the player’s signature after Sky Bet listed the Toffees as the clear favourites to win the transfer race.
Everton could be preparing for life without John Stones, with Chelsea reportedly set to make an improved £30m offer for the 21-year-old defender.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is understood to be desperate to keep hold of Stones, however a bid of £30m+ could tempt the club’s top brass to sell the player.
Evans would be a solid addition to the Everton line-up, with the 27-year-old having made 131 Premier League appearances with the Red Devils following his debut in 2006.
