If Ramos isn’t available, Man United may have to settle for Pepe. Can the aging Real Madrid back play a similar defensive role?
With Man United’s ongoing quest for Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos yielding no results so far, the Red Devils have turned their sights to one of his teammates: Pepe.
According to the Metro, Man United are lining up a transfer bid for Pepe as an alternate choice for Ramos. The 32-year-old Portuguese center back is coming off his 8th season with Real Madrid, and had 2 goals in 38 total appearances last year. He first signed with Real Madrid on a €30 million transfer out of Porto in 2007.
The Red Devils need some help on the defense and have been trying extremely hard to land Sergio Ramos. But even though the Real Madrid star is believed to be eager to move to Man United, Real Madrid are apparently unwilling to sell.
Pepe is a two-time Euro Team of the Tournament member with Portugal and was a member of the 2013-14 Champions League Team of the Season member as well. Pepe has 3 goals in 65 caps for Portugal and represented the country in the last two World Cup tournaments.
