Man United are scooping up midfielders like hotcakes. Will Nicolas Gaitan be the third midfield ace Louis van Gaal brings to Old Trafford this summer?
In a stretch of just a few days Man United have added two midfield superstars, but they may have just landed their third in Nicolas Gaitan.
According to the Metro, Man United have agreed to a transfer fee for Benfica’s star midfielder Gaitan – concluding a nearly two-year effort by the Red Devils to land the 27-year-old Argentinian. The Metro reports that the sale will be for approximately £21.5 million, however, it was worth noting that the Gaitan deal might not be finalized until Man United resolves the status of £59.7 million flop Angel Di Maria.
Gaitan has contributed to two straight years of absolute dominance for Benfica in Primeira Liga, winning back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and Taca da Liga titles. In 2013-14, Benfica won the League title, Taca da Liga, Taca de Portugal and finished as the runner-up in the UEFA Europa League – all while Gaitan recorded one of the best seasons of his career.
