The agent for Real Madrid megastar Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly informed Manchester United that his star client is available.
According to the Metro, agent Jorge Mendes, who conveniently represents Man U’s disgruntled goalkeeper David De Gea, spoke to the Red Devils about Ronaldo’s availability while discussing the status of De Gea. The Metro also quoted a recent interview from Spanish journalist Alfredo Duro on Radio Marca, who confirmed that Mendes discussed Ronaldo in addition to De Gea.
“Jorge Mendes, when he was in Manchester, not only spoke about De Gea but also Ronaldo,” Duro said.
The Metro reported that Man U boss Louis van Gaal is more interested in Real Madrid’s other megastar Gareth Bale, and considering the price tags on both stars (likely to be well over £100 million per head) not even the big-time spending spree Man U is poised to make will be enough to land both of them while addressing other team needs.
Ronaldo previously played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009 under former manager Alex Ferguson, making 196 appearances and scoring 84 goals as the club won three straight Premier League championships from 2006 to 2009. After being sold to Real Madrid for £80 million in 2009, he became the first footballer in history to record 50 goals or more in a season on five consecutive years.
As for De Gea, there has been a lot of buzz as to the future of Manchester United’s star goalie, who is apparently eager to leave the club. Though van Gaal believes De Gea will remain in Old Trafford, neither De Gea nor any members of his inner circle have expressed similar enthusiasm.
